Our Roles
The TCMC is made up of the four local governments (the “Jurisdictions”), an Executive Committee, a Community Advisory Workgroup, and a Staff Team, which all play a key role in regional climate action.
Detailed roles and responsibilities of each group can be found in the TCMC Regional Implementation Guidance.
Jurisdictions
The Jurisdictions include the legislative bodies of Thurston County, Lacey, Olympia, and Tumwater. Jurisdictions have ultimate decision-making over climate policies and programs, including regional and city/county actions. Each City Council and the Board of County Commissioners makes independent decisions on which actions to implement and how to resource and tailor implementation to work best for their city or county.
Executive Committee
The TCMC Executive Committee is made up of one elected official from each of the four Jurisdictions. The Executive Committee meets quarterly to share information on local climate mitigation activity, review progress toward achieving emissions targets, and build partnerships to support implementation of the Thurston Climate Mitigation Plan (TCMP). The Executive Committee proposes priority regional initiatives and makes recommendations on amendments to the TCMP.
Executive Committee Members
Community Advisory Workgroup
The TCMC Community Advisory Workgroup (CAW) is comprised of up to 15 interested community members representing a diversity of interests, life experience, and work experience. The CAW meets up to 12 times a year to provide perspectives and feedback on climate mitigation progress and priorities to the Jurisdictions, Staff Team, and Executive Committee.
CAW Members are appointed by the Staff Team for three-year terms or on a rolling basis to fill vacancies.
Community Advisory Workgroup Members
Staff Team
The TCMC Staff Team is comprised of the climate program staff from each of the Jurisdictions. The Staff Team meets on a regular basis to share information on the climate mitigation activities of individual jurisdictions and actively facilitate cross-jurisdictional coordination on TCMP implementation. Staff members bring back information and recommendations from and to the decision-making bodies in their individual cities/county.
